01 / My background

From education
to legal study.

My name is Cai Jingyang. I graduated from Huzhou University in 2025, majoring in Preschool Education. I am currently studying for a master’s degree in Law, and I plan to work in the legal field.

Changing my academic direction has made me think carefully about my future. My earlier studies gave me a perspective on people, communication, and responsibility. Through legal study, I now want to develop a more structured way to understand problems, examine rules, and explain possible solutions.

I am interested in work that connects careful analysis with practical support. An entry-level legal assistant position would give me the opportunity to learn how legal knowledge is used in real situations.

Current status: postgraduate law student. This portfolio presents my academic background, professional approach, and development goals.

02 / Employer needs

What does an
entry-level legal role need?

For this portfolio, I use a junior corporate legal assistant position as my target. It provides a practical starting point for exploring my fit with legal work.

Illustrative role analysis, rather than a specific company’s job advertisement. Exact duties and eligibility depend on the employer and jurisdiction.

01

Legal knowledge

A developing understanding of legal concepts and the ability to identify questions that require further research.

02

Research & source checking

Find relevant legal materials, check their authority and date, and explain how they relate to the issue.

03

Document support

Organise files, compare wording, prepare summaries, and flag unclear terms for a supervisor.

04

Clear communication

Explain information in accessible language and distinguish established facts from unanswered questions.

05

Confidentiality & care

Handle information responsibly, pay attention to detail, and follow the organisation’s procedures.

06

Teamwork & deadlines

Keep accurate records, track tasks, and seek guidance when a matter exceeds the assistant’s role.

03 / Skills and professional approach

What I am building.

My postgraduate study is my current foundation. These are the abilities I aim to demonstrate through coursework and supervised practical experience.

READ WITH A PURPOSE

Legal research & analysis

I aim to separate facts, legal issues, relevant rules, and possible conclusions. I would verify sources before relying on them.

MAKE THE ISSUE CLEAR

Writing & communication

I value clear explanations and organised notes. My education background also gives me a useful perspective on explaining unfamiliar ideas.

CHECK THE SMALL DETAILS

Document organisation

I want to develop reliable habits for checking names, dates, versions, and missing information, while keeping sensitive material secure.

04 / Illustrative work sample

Turning a question
into a clear review.

A Service Agreement:
First-Pass Review

Scenario: a company asks a legal assistant to organise questions about a draft service agreement before a supervisor reviews it.

Document reviewIssue spottingClear reporting

My objective: prepare a concise issue list, identify missing information, and support the supervisor’s decision.

  1. Confirm the facts. Identify the parties, service scope, key dates, and documents supplied.
  2. Check the wording. Flag unclear payment terms, delivery obligations, termination provisions, and dispute procedures.
  3. List open questions. Ask which jurisdiction applies and which commercial points remain unsettled.
  4. Report carefully. Separate document observations from legal questions and submit both to the supervisor.

Example observation: “The draft does not state a payment deadline. Please confirm the intended deadline and who should approve the revised clause.”

This example illustrates my intended method. It is not a completed placement, a legal opinion, or evidence of professional qualification.

05 / Career fit

My strengths.
My next steps.

My current legal study supports this career direction. My undergraduate major adds a different perspective, while practical legal ability still needs to be demonstrated through evidence and experience.
